I don’t think any of us could have imagined the way 2020 is playing out. Stress, anxiety, and fear are very real for many of us, as we deal with an unprecedented pandemic that shows no signs of letting up. But in my opinion, mindset is everything. Even in the darkest days, it’s critical to stay positive. I wanted to share with you some ideas to help.
Getting Outside
We are so fortunate to live in one of the best climates in the country! And now is a great time to maximize the time spent outdoors. Whether that’s spent gardening in your backyard or taking a local hike, getting outside is a great way to decompress and clear your head. Nature has so many healing properties that we take for granted. Sometimes, a brisk walk in fresh air is it takes to reset your mind.
Yoga & Meditation
If you have never practiced the art of meditation, now is a perfect time to get in the habit. Apps like Calm and Headspace offer a variety of meditation programs, and Headspace is actually free right now for anyone who has lost their job due to the pandemic. Consider starting a free trial.
Another way to take your mind off of things (while also getting in some much-needed exercise) is by practicing yoga. Practicing yoga integrates both breathing, poses, and meditation to a degree, which is excellent for the mind and body. Regular practice can help with mental clarity and calmness, while also helping to reduce stress.
Staying Connected & Networking
The pandemic has caused many of us to feel isolated because we aren’t working in the traditional sense of the word. But staying connected and networking is critical to not only your career but also your mental wellbeing. Make time to interact with colleagues, clients, and friends. And consider a phone call or video chat versus an email or text. The connection we get from seeing someone’s facial expressions or hearing their voice really does outpace communicating from behind a keyboard.
