How to Add Curb Appeal To Your Home

They say that you never get a second chance to make a first impression. And nowhere is this truer than with your home’s curb appeal.

As a REALTOR®, I often speak to my clients about boosting their curb appeal when they’re planning to list their home for sale. It’s the first thing a potential buyer sees when they drive up, and it only takes seconds for someone to form an opinion for better or for worse.

When it comes to curb appeal, the list can be long when it comes to ideas. But these are some of my favorite ways to add a little sparkle to your home!

A Bright Green Lawn

If you are fortunate enough to have grass in front of your home, make sure it is well manicured and a vibrant bright green. It provides an amazing backdrop for your home to pop! And if you are without grass, don’t overlook the power of colorful planted flowers in pots or flower boxes. They can be used to highlight specific parts of your home like windows or your front door.

Liven Up Your Front Door

Speaking of your front door, one of the easiest and most impactful ways you can boost your curb appeal is by brightening it up with a pop of color. This is a very inexpensive way to add some personality to your home, and it’s easy enough to DIY. Look for a bold color that will add to your existing elevation, and don’t be afraid to experiment with color samples to find the perfect shade.

Get Your Lighting Right

Many buyers will attend a daytime open house, but that’s not to say they won’t drive by in the evening to see what your home looks like after the sun has gone down. That’s why it’s essential to get your lighting right! Brighten up your walkway with solar-powered lights, and perhaps replace your sconces with something more modern.

Consider New House Numbers

House numbers are an easy way to detect the age of a home. From the font to the condition of the numbers, they can be a dead giveaway that your home is not exactly new. But with so many updated options on the market, including those with modern and updated fonts, this is an easy way to change things up and help your home to look newer.

Invest In a New Mailbox

Mailboxes have come a long way from the days of the domed metal box with a red flag. Now, you can get powder-coated mailboxes in different sizes and colors with your street numbers laser cut right into the box itself.

Gut Your Gutters

Trust me: when potential buyers are visiting your home, they are looking at everything! And this includes dirty rain gutters that can easily be cleaned out with a garden hose and a ladder. Make sure you scrub the outside too, which will bring even more visual appeal!

Power Wash the Exterior

You wouldn’t believe how much gunk and grime accumulate on your home’s exterior until you give it a proper power wash. You can rent a machine from a home improvement store, or hire a company to do this for you. The finished product will truly amaze you! Don’t overlook your driveway, porch, and walkways too.

Arrange Outdoor Furniture and Decor

Too many items cluttering up your porch or entryway can be a distraction for would-be buyers. But the same can also be said when there is not enough furniture and decor. Make sure you arrange your outdoor living area in such a way that it appeals to the masses and works with the space you have. An excellent place to start is by ensuring that all of it is clean and in good condition. Consider ceramic stools for seating and/or a place to set a gorgeous outdoor plant.

These are just a few of the ways that I help my clients add curb appeal to their homes when they are listing them for sale. I am happy to assist with collecting bids for these projects as well, so if you’re considering a pre-sale project such as one of these above, please contact me.
